In this 1978 address at the Mayo Clinic, noted economist Milton Friedman makes it clear that socialized medicine is not in the best interest of patients or healthcare providers. He characterizes the healthcare field as schizophrenic when it comes to governmental control of healthcare because while they are fundamentally against socialized medicine, it’s hard to resist the lure of piles of money that are suddenly introduced in a system anytime the government takes control of a large consumer policy. He urged the audience to resist the approval of any government controlled healthcare policy.
